A CRISP training course was held during the weekend of 23/24 of March 2001 at the Rajamangala Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand.
This was a hands-on course with plenty of practical examples covering various areas of geotechnical engineering such as excavation, retaining walls, tunnelling, embankments.
The course was attended by engineers from the highway authority and from other engineering firms as well as postgraduate students.
Bangkok lies on a flat terrain which is very close to mean sea level. The ground is mostly clay overlaying sand which often presents challenging problems to the engineer due to the underdrainage conditions. CRISP is quite suited for such unusual consolidation problems.
The course was taught by Amir Rahim. Facilities were kindly provided by the staff of Rajamngala Institute. We also thank Mr Sawat Srimuangthon for helping in organising the course as well as our CRISP agent in Thailand Mr Thongchai for his efforts.
